

Gosport Solent Brass: An Evening of Magic and Fantasy
We are delighted to welcome back Gosport Solent Brass for their Spring Concert: An Evening of Magic and Fantasy.
At this concert of epic magical and fantasy film themes, the band opens the gates to the world of Harry Potter, The Lord of The Rings, Ghostbusters, Hook, Into The Woods, Pirates of the Caribbean and Disney's Fantasia plus many, many more.

Biography
Gosport Solent Brass prides itself in providing quality music for concerts and civic events across Gosport and Hampshire. As of January 2025, the band is ranked in the First Section of the West of England Brass Band Association and annually competes in the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain and occasionally at local contests across the South.








Organ Recital: Liz le Grove and Paul Hart
We are delighted to welcome back Liz le Grove and Paul Hart on Monday 17th March at Holy Trinity Church, Gosport, starting at 1pm. A marriage made in heaven, this organ and trumpet recital promises to be very special indeed. The music programme is unique to our recital series and includes one of Liz le Grove's own compositions. Biographies
Paul Hart began playing the bugle in a marching band at the age of nine years. He then progressed to playing the trumpet in school and county bands. He joined the Royal Marines School of Music in 1987, after being impressed by the Royal Marines’ performance at the Royal Tournament. He initially studied cornet and violin at the School of Music, before transferring to solo cornet. During his period of training he won several prizes, including the Bronze medal for the Cassel Prize.
He passed out of training early and joined Commader-in-Chief Fleet Band. After this he was drafted back to the Royal Marines School of Music Staff Band at Deal, until the closure of Deal Barracks in 1996. He became Principal Cornet of the Royal Band and then Solo Cornet Instructor at the Royal Marines School of Music. He passed his promotional course for the rank of Sergeant in 2000, gaining the Dip ABRSM diploma in conducting. He also holds the CT ABRSM qualification in instrumental teaching and the LTCL diploma in Trumpet Performance. During his time in the Royal Marines he played many solos at prestigious venues and events, including at the Royal Albert Hall and for an estimated audience of eleven thousand at the International Festival of the Sea.
Paul left the Royal Marines Band Service in 2004, to pursue a career in performing and instrumental teaching. He teaches brass and conducts for Southampton Music Services. He has been Director of Music for the Southampton Concert Brand and Assistant Director of Music for the Southampton Youth Brass Band, which he has conducted during tours to China and France. He frequently performs as a soloist at concerts and recitals.
Elizabeth Le Grove grew up in Suffolk. She studied music at the University of Wales, Bangor, and was awarded a Bachelor of Music honours degree in 1980. She then spent three years as Assistant Organist at Bangor Cathedral, before taking the Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) course at Durham University. In 1984 she was awarded the PGCE, together with the Royal College of Organists’ Fellowship qualification (FRCO) and diploma in choral training and conducting (CHM). She later gained the M Phil degree for musical analysis.
She taught at schools and colleges before being appointed in 1996 to the post of Director of Academic Music, Higher Training at the Royal Marines School of Music. Here, she taught on the Bandmasters’ Course and she was Course Leader for the Royal Marines School of Music Bachelor of Music honours and Master of Music degree programmes. In 2004 she completed a Doctorate in Education at the Institute of Education, University of London. She retired from the Royal Marines School of Music in 2023. She is Director of Music at the Church of St Peter and St Paul, Hambledon, and she plays the organ regularly in concerts, recitals as well as church services.
In 2004 Paul and Elizabeth made a trumpet and organ CD entitled Celestial Trumpet. This was followed by a second CD two years later, entitled Golden Trumpet. Both recordings are on the Clovelly label.

Jimmy Alderson: Piano
We are really excited to welcome back Jimmy Alderson to Holy Trinity, Gosport. Jimmy returns following an eighteen months gaps and we couldn't be more delighted to see him again. Jimmy is a concert pianist of some renown and has impressed us with his repertoire and superb performance in past concerts at Holy Trinity and at the Music Room at Stansted House. Biography
Jimmy has been playing piano for 10 years, but began considering it as a career path some 8 years ago, studying under Valentina Seferinova, enabled by a scholarship awarded by the Amber Trust - a charity for helping visually impaired children to access music.
He has competed in the Portsmouth Music Festival and won the Clifford Benson prize, as well as being awarded second place in The John Ireland competition hosted by Southampton University; and has performed at the Turner Sims Concert Hall. Jimmy has played at Holy Trinity, Gosport on several occasions in the past 3 years and also at Stansted House Music Room, where he will return in September this year.
Besides music, he has been training in judo for a similar period, competing in various places and training periodically at the Centre of Excellence. He has also been training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu; and has been/is learning Japanese.
Jimmy hopes to continue his music education by studying for a Master's degree.

Biography
Alex Flower is a freelance organist and teacher based in London. He is the Organist at St. George’s Cathedral Southwark, where he plays for the weekly schedule of services, and works with the children’s choirs and professional lay clerks. He is also a keen music teacher, working with St Paul’s School, King’s College Wimbledone and Dulwich College as organ teacher, and is always proud to be introducing the organ to more young people. He is a prizewinning Fellow of the Royal College of Organists, and regularly appears around London as a freelance soloist, accompanist and continuo player.
Teenage organ studies in Gosport, Hampshire under Geoffrey Holroyde, led Alex to hold the organ scholarship at Worcester College, Oxford University. He graduated with a First Class BA in Music and played for various services, concerts and album recordings, studying organ with William Whitehead. Subsequently, he held positions at two London churches, St Mary’s Bourne Street and St Cyprian’s Clarence Gate, before starting at St George’s Cathedral. Alex is also a keen saxophonist, having recently graduated with Distinction and prizes from the Guildhall School of Music’s MMus jazz performance course. Occasionally, he is allowed to play some saxophone alongside the choir of St George’s Cathedral, and he enjoys dabbling with jazz organ when no one is listening!

We are really excited to welcome back Fumi Otsuki to our tea-time concert programme this coming Sunday, 2nd February at 3.30pm. Fumi joins us from London and will be accompanied by Natalie Bleicher. Biographies
Fumi Otsuki was born in Sendai, Japan, and studied the violin with Gerhard Bosse and Masaypshi Kumai there, and Shizuko Ishii in Tokyo.
He then moved to the UK to study violin with Jill Thoday, piano with Antonietta Notariello, composition with Nigel Clarke at the Royal Academy of Music, and violin with Kun Hu and piano with Raymond Banning at the Trinity College of Music in London.
Further to this he attended masterclasses in Dartington and Couchevel with Jean-Jacques Kantorow, Tomotada Soh and Kun Hu, and had private violin lessons with Tomotada Soh, Sigrun Edvaldsdottir, Andrew Jacobs-Gajic, Kun Hu and Winifred Roberts.
Fumi has given many concerts at cathedrals and churches, including the Cathedrals of Southwark in London, Guildford, Portsmouth, Leicester and Newport, Cheltenham Town Hall, Stansted House, Holy Trinity in Stratford-upon-Avon, All Saints in High Wycombe, St. John’s in Chester, St. Stephen’s in Bristol, St Mary’s in Portchester and Holy Trinity in Gosport.
Natalie Bleicher is a classical pianist and composter living in Hertfordshire. She has a particular passion for contemporary music and performs new works regularly. She studied music at New College, Oxford, and composition at King’s College London.
Natalie’s solo CD, Dream Rotation, features premiere recordings by British composers, Sally Beamish, Paul Burnell, Cheryl Frances-Hoad, Rob Keeley, Joanna Lee and Dave Smith. In 2018 she was selected to perform in a BBC Radio 3 lunchtime concert for International Women’s Day. In 2019, she performed with Lontano ensemble in a CD of works by Jennifer Fowler and the world premiere of Odaline de la Martinez’ opera, Imoinda.
Natalie is the regular accompanist for West Hampstead Community Choir, and Lemon Tuesdays choir in Chorleywood. She plays for weekly Mini Mozart baby classes in St Albans, and regularly accompanies grade and diploma exams. She teaches piano to children and adults.
Natalie’s compositions for piano, electronic keyboard and harp have featured on Trinity Guildhall syllabuses. In 2022, she was selected for the ABRSM Composers mentoring scheme to further develop her work writing music for education, and her composition, London Wall Bass, is in the syllabus for ABRSM Grade 4 Double Bass.

Biography
David Oldfield was born and educated in Sheffield, at King Edward VII School and at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, where he studied organ, singing, and choral training.
David was Head of Music in schools, taught organ, piano and singing, and has held several organist and choirmaster positions. an organ recitalist and accompanist, he has worked extensively with and for the RSCM.
David specialises in early music, Baroque and Contemporary, but also has a wide repertoire outside these periods. He has made a special study of Tudor Church Music and the vast choral repertoire of English Church Music.
David directs the choir Coro Novus, as well as being involved in other choirs near his new home in Gosport. He also continues to pursue his career as a recitalist and as an accompanist.

Richard Dewland - MD, Lee Choral Society
Bristol-bom and a Birmingham Conservatoire Graduate, Richard Dewland works as a freelance musician in Hampshire. As an organist, pianist flautist, singer and composer, his professional engagements are broad and varied; Head of Music at Boundary Oak school, organist and Director of Music at St Faith's Church Lee-on-Solent, private tutor, organ recitalist and published composer of Liturgical music.
Canon Peter Gould, LCS Accompanist
LCS was delighted to appoint Peter Gould as its accompanist in 2024. Peter, born in Portsmouth and an alumni of the Royal Academy of Music, has had a distinguished career as an organist, music teacher, chorus master, conductor and examiner, and took retirement after a total of 40 years working in English Cathedrals as Master of Music. Musicians never really retire, however...
Graham Vaughan, cellist
Graham joined the Royal Marines School of Music in 1980, where he studied the euphonium, trombone and cello at the start of his career in the RM Band Service. He has performed in venues all around the world, from the Royal Albert Hall in London to the Ethihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia and from Edinburgh Castle to the Lucerne Opera House. He has many performances for the Royal Family to his credit. Now retired from his military service, Graham teaches brass and cello and is still an active professional performer.

Biographies
Stephanie Peat - Soprano. Before pursuing a career in music, Stephanie initially trained as an actor, performing in theatre, television and film. After completing her music degree at Chichester University in 2000, Stephanie became a contemporary singing teacher at South Downs College. She enjoys singing both classical and contemporary music, having performed extensively in concerts and shows in both genres over the last 20 years. Stephanie has just joined a three piece jazz band called the Keith Gregory Jazz Trio and also enjoys teaching singing and recording in her studio at home in Portsmouth.
Rebecca Grove - Soprano. Rebecca performs both as a soloist and as a member of a choir. Past performances include singing Mabel in Pirates of Penzance, Abigail in Nabucco during a summer opera workshop, and Mozart’s Alleluia accompanied by Chichester Symphony Orchestra. Rebecca enjoys attending singing days and workshops. She is a member of Selsey Chamber Choir and also performs at the Bognor Regis Music Club.
Merry Spong - Pianist. Merryl started learning piano aged seven and flute aged eleven. Although choosing not to pursue a musical career, she has enjoyed accompanying singers, instrumentalists, dancers, choirs and amateur dramatic groups for many years.


Bishop's Bells: Sandy Foster
It's been quite a while, but we are really looking forward to the return of Bishops Bells to Holy Trinity Concert Series this coming Sunday, 6th October at 3.30pm. Biographies
Cathy grew up in Manchester and studied at the Royal Northern College of Music. She then enjoyed a career as an orchestral violinist, with positions in the Bournemouth Sinfonietta, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Welsh National Opera Orchestra, the BBC Radio Orchestra and the BBC Concert Orchestra. Cathy also freelanced extensively in and around London. She now plays in local orchestras.
Eunice studied piano, violin and piano accompaniment at the Royal Academy of Music and was a visiting teacher. She has acted as official accompanist at music festivals in the south of England and has been house pianist on several courses for violin and cello in Gloucester. Besides working with opera groups she has an extensive piano duet repertoire and plays chamber music with local musicians.

Oliver was last with us in March when the organ let him down during his morning practice and we had to cancel. We are fortunate indeed that Oliver is able to make it again on Monday. Biography
Oliver Macfarlane is an organist based in Guildford. His full-time music education began at Winchester School of Art followed by four years at the Royal College of Music where he gained his graduate and performing diplomas in both piano and organ. Oliver studied organ with Richard Popplewell, Gillian Weir and at the International Summer Academy in Haarlem, Holland. Recently he has embarked on further organ studies specialising in French repertoire with Ben van Oosten in The Hague. He has given many organ recitals including at the London churches of St Brides Fleet Street, St George’s Hanover Square and St Michael’s Cornhill, and at the cathedrals of Bristol, Truro and Worcester. Currently he is Assistant Organist at Christ Church Esher, and a deputy organist for St Mary’s Stoke D’Abdernon, Cobham in Surrey.
Oliver Macfarlane had a long career in broadcasting with the BBC. In Television Classic Music he was series editor of performance output where his portfolio of programmes included the BBC Proms, the prestigious Young Musician of the Year competition, the conducting series Maestro, concerts from the Barbican, and several opera and ballet relays from the Royal Opera House. In 2013 Oliver left the BBC to concentrate on playing the organ.
Fareham Rock Choir
We are in for a real treat next Sunday, 7th July, at the 3.30pm tea-time concert, Holy Trinity Church, Gosport, when Fareham Rock Choir will be singing their first concert at Holy Trinity. We are very excited to welcome them and look forward to an hour of uplifting popular music that will lift the rafters and leave us feeling fulfilled and enlivened. Los Ladrones
We are joined by Los Ladrones this coming Sunday, 2nd June, at 3.30pm, Holy Trinity Church, Gosport. We know this will be an hour of great musical theatre with lots of fun. Our Gosport audience loved Los Ladrones when they last performed at Holy Trinity. It's been a while and I am really thrilled they are coming back. Organ Recital: Gabrielle Lewis
We are thrilled to welcome back Gabrielle Lewis who will play for us at Holy Trinity Church, Gosport at 1pm on Monday 20th May. Gabrielle played for us last July and we were massively impressed with her performance. She joins us from her home in Cornwall and we are jolly lucky to have her play our important, historic Handel Organ.
