Review: Oliver Macfarlane

Beautifully played - as always, Oliver - thank you! Oliver Macfarlane brought us a remarkably varied programme at Holy Trinity today, featuring Mendelssohn, Vierne, Bach and Saint-Saens. We loved the whole programme but feel special mention should be made of the Bach Prelude and Fuge in C Minor, which introduced us to a playful Bach: jaunty and happy - quite unlike any Bach I've heard before. Saint-Saens' 'The Swan'. written for cello, sounded especially beautiful on the organ and inspired gentle images in my mind of a serene natural world. Oliver's final piece inspired by Vierne's visit with an aristocratic friend and the peel of church bells was truly memorable and also music from Oliver's own wedding . . . We have waited four months for Oliver's earlier cancelled recital - and boy was it worth it! Thanks Oliver and we look forward to the next one…
